Wine culture, The Bottle
[Tasting]  [Glasses]  [The Bottle]  [Bibliography]  [Wine glossary]

The main bottles used are the Bordelaise and Burgundian for red wines and the Bordelaise and the Rhine or Alsation shape for whites and rosés.

Lately, a slightly longer Bordelaise has been used for high expression wines.

The most widely-sold bottles are those of 75cl. Nonetheless, those of greater capacity are the best fit to conserve the wine:

Magnum: 1.5 liters, the second-most used after the 750 cm³, ideal for wine conservation
Jeroboam: 3.01 liters
Rehoboam: 6.01 liters
Methuselah: 9.01 liters
Salmanazar: 9.60 liters
Balthazar: 12.8 liters
Nebuchadnezzar: 16 liters
