Moderate consumption of good wine has positive effects on health. These properties are contained in the grape skins and seeds, which contain such compounds as quercetin (the coloring substance of the fruit), flebons, tannins and polyphenols, mainly resveratrol, whose powerful antioxidant effect acts to prevent certain diseases.
Many recent scientific studies have shown that wine has a number of revitalising, stimulating and calming effects that are extremely efficacious and positive for humans.
The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends consumption of 30-40 cl daily for men and 20-30 cl for women.
The best-known traits of moderate wine consumption are, among others:
- prevention of arteriosclerosis
- reduced risk of heart attack
- lessened probability of developing certain cancers
- provides minerals such as iron, sodium ions and potassium
- germicidal and disinfectant action
- reduction of depressive states
- reduced probability of suffering senile dementia or Alzheimer’s disease
