A variety of French origin, with a dark blue color and very thick skin. It gives wine a sweeter, fruitier taste. It is harvested rather early, and gives good results in hot areas, with capacity to make crianza wines, usually with high performance. It has high alcohol content, contributing to the stickiness of the wine. The acidity is of a medium level. With this variety, wines of great structure and aromas of black pepper, green pepper and forest fruits are made.
