The Priorat Qualified Appellation of Origin uses the wine produced in the municipalities of Bellmunt del Priorat, Gratallops, Porrera, Torroja del Priorat, La Vilella Alta, Poboleda, La Morera de Montsant, the Scala Dei croplands, La Vilella Baixa, El Lloà, and a small parcel in the north of the Falset and El Molar municipalities.

The headquarters of the QAO Priorat Regulatory board is in Torroja del Priorat.

Its boundaries are within the geographic center of the county, and coincide with those of the Historic Priorship
of Scala Dei, with the addition of two towns and part of two others due to reasons of climatic and geological similarity.

The QAO Priorat and its Regulatory board were approved by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1954, giving them the necessary legislative support and recognition of the differentiation of the wines produced in the area, based on enological and historic criteria.
In December, 2000 it became a Qualified AO with a strict code of regulations and control mechanisms that guarantee the origin and high quality of the wines before consumers.

The area of productive vineyards now included in the QAO Priorat is near 1,600 ha.

The wines of this Qualified AO, made in selected fashion with the highest quality standards, have high alcohol content, a great deal of structure due to the high content in tannins, with well matched and balanced alcohol, acidity and tannins. They are persistent, with marked personalities. They are original wines that combine tradition with modernity.
